Raising Seeds

Monday, September 17th, 2018

Aim: To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.

Method:

  1. We worked in groups of 3-4 students.
  2. Potting mix was put into the cups.
  3. The cups were planted with radish seeds.
  4. Each cup had a different growing condition:

Cup 1 - Normal
Cup 2 - Red Cellophane
Cup 3 - Over watered
Cup 4 -  blue cellophane
Cup 5 - Clear Cellophane
The plants grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured

Findings:

  1. blue light - 60.9mm
  2. overwatered - 10mm
  3. red light - 70mm
  4. normal - 10.5mm
  5. clear light - 60mm

Plant growing condition
Height after 10 days (mm)
Normal
10.5mm
Blue cellophane
60.1mm
Red cellophane
70mm
Overwater
10mm

The normal seedling was planted in normal potting mix and grew to a height of 10.5mm.
The blue cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix, covered in blue cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of 60.1mm. The red cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix............. to a height of 70mm. The overwatered seedling was planted in normal potting mix, the water could not drain out the bottom of the pot and it grew to a height of 10mm.

Conclusion:

From the pictures and evidence, we can conclude that:

The seedling height was:

1.Red Cellophane- 70mm
2.Blue Cellophane- 60.1mm
3.Normal- 10.5mm
4.Overwater- 10mm

The best growing conditions were:

1.Red Cellophane
2.Blue Cellophane
3.Normal
4.Overwater

therefore the seedling with red cellophane conditions grew to a height of 70mm.

Traditional Tales

Wednesday, September 5th, 2018

In traditional tales, we've been learning how to thoroughly examine tales by gathering data. To show our understanding we modelled particular objects and animals that somehow interpret with the tale that's associated with and combined it with the others.

I mainly focused on Orpheus and Eurydice as the storyline was so enriching. I decided to do an explanation about the tale whilst modelling a rose to contemplate their blooming love for each other. I used modelling clay to make the rose and wrote a brief description of it.

As we were in groups of 4, the others were to model different tales and write descriptions about them. We were to show our learning in different ways, as long as it portrays the learning, there is an option to make a diorama, draw pictures and to paint on a blank canvas.

Wood Tech Blog

Tuesday 28th August 2018

We were given sheets of paper to plan out how we are going to fabricate the three piece puzzle.

Firstly we were told to draw the lines needed to create the holes fitted into each pieces of wood. In able to that, we took precise measurements of the lines and edges by using a ruler. This is to be repeated onto all the three pieces of timber.

Thirdly once the linings were successful, we then had to point out the negative, positive and the 'T' line on the timber. Each marking has it's own indication when beginning to cut.

Once that is done we were to drill holes onto the wood that has the 'negative' indication. Doing this on both the sides of the timber, the holes had to be visible and proper in order to chisel it into it's desired shape.

Chiseling the timber was tiring and painful for it took a lot of tries to shape it perfectly.

Satisfied with the outcome the 'T line' and the 'positive' indications on the other pieces of timber; it was to be cut using the radial saw.

Lastly! When all pieces have been cut, it is to be fitted into eachother to create a puzzle piece in need for sorting out!

9HEE Problem Solving Blogging

Wednesday, 22nd August 2018

LO: Communicate what you have learned and how you will apply what you know to the year 9 Business Kete. . .

What did you learn about?
I learned about problem-solving strategies by coming up with my own scenarios and to observe the conflict. I had to describe what it is like seeing the problem from two different angles and come up with an alternative way to solve the problem.

When discussing "Thought Challenges" what did you notice about yourself?
During the discussion about thought challenges, I never knew I was capable of understanding the subject as I am usually uninterested in such a thing. However, during the talk about it, I became intrigued and studied more in order to understand.

What solutions can you try when you face a challenge during the Business & Enterprise Kete? Give an example:
During the Business & Enterprise Kete, I will be able to overcome challenges by referencing back to the thought challenges and the problem-solving in order to overcome that challenge.

Can you redesign the Coping Step Plan template to work for more than one person?
When 2 or more of my group members are challenged during the Business & Enterprise Kete we can use the Coping Step Plan by understanding the steps and acting them out in order to experience what it's like planned on the sheet.

Music 2018

What are we working on this term?
We are trying to understand what a catchy jingle is like. Our assignment was to research 10 things that make a catchy jingle in use for our upcoming business and enterprise to make our advertisements more appealing to the public eye.

What is your job?
My job is to come up with the class song in use for our catchy jingle needed for the music video that is being choreographed by some classmates.

How will you ensure that we are successful?
Everyone will complete their part of the class assignment and persevere through until everything comes all together.

Catchy Jingles.

What am I learning?
I am learning how to make an appealing advertisement and catchy jingle as part of the business enterprise.

How does this work show my learning?
The video is a reference to what a catchy jingle used in an advertisement is like.

What am I Wondering?
I wonder how the creators could come up with all this idea, how they planned it out and choreographed it.
