My static image portrays the idea that Martha had a lonely childhood having said that no-one would come to her aid as she screams in the midst of night. Since she lives in a strict religious family, the duration of her childhood consisted of dull, dark moments such as the beatings and strict regulations. Her parents never allowed her to sense the taste of freedom.
I have shown this by Having a dark background with the smudges of rubber stuck onto glue creating a
somewhat lonely atmosphere for dead souls and the darkness was her
only companion through the night. As the darkness surround her feeble self, a teddy bear isocated in her left hand as she walks through the abyss of emptiness, only the faint smudges
of wispy white souls lead her the way. The teddy bear she holds in hand
indicates that that bear was her only companion through the hardships and loneliness throughout
her childhood. The bear also is a sign of warmth and protection, a
replacement of her parents as she always craved for their love.
As Martha walks alone in her dream/ nightmare, evil shadow hands on both sides reach out
to her in an attempt to pull her back into misery. This indicates her fear of being in
the dark all alone as she is anxious for what resides within the darkness itself.
The visual elements I have used include a huge black piece of paper contrasted with the white paper used to draw little Martha and her teddy bear. The faint smudge marks consist of glue to help
stick the faint rubber marks. White colouring pencils are included for marking the shadows to make
it more visible on the dark sheet of paper.
I have used the colour (s) black and white as they represent the simplicity,
complexity and dullness in her life. No other colours to show the vibrant life she has ever wished for.
The quotation (s) I have chosen is “When I was little I would wake up screaming Nobody heard, nobody, came.”
The words are relevant because It describes how everything began,
how she grew afraid of the darkness and how she grew to hate
the dullness engulfing her life
