Conservation

Aim: Find out what other people think what Conservation might mean.

Image result for conservationMethod:

  1. Write down what I think conservation might mean.
  2. Find six people and ask what it means to them.
  3. Record their thoughts on a table and gather the information.
  4. Discover the similarities and differences within the given information.
  5. Once I've gathered all the information I will present this in my blog.
  6. Include the Department Of Conservation at the end of my presentation.
My Understanding:

From what I think, Conservation means when people try to sustain the world and keep the environment green and healthy.

The Six Interviewed Students/ Teacher:

Conservation is about making sure that our world is sustainable. so that means using our resources and replenishing them. making sure that the lifeform on earth are protected and that they don't go extinct. Lifeform means both plants and living animals. Making sure that our world around us is not polluted, not killing things, not polluting things and looking after our world. -Mr. Stock
Conservation is maintaining the earth and each living animal including plants. -Erica
Conservation is ensuring the sustainability of our action for the environment. -Nathan
I think it’s about sustainability and saving the nation. -Meagan

I think conservation is a way to preserve and control a certain thing so they last for a long period of time. -Zac

I think conservation where you don't waste things like you don't drink half of the water and pour the rest out. -Joel

Similarities: From what I recorded, everyone has said that conservation is all about maintaining plants, earth, and animals keeping them alive and not polluting the oceans. The similarity within their replies, conservation to them is maintaining the earth's lifecycle and plants/animals.

Differences: Some mentioned plants while some only included the nation and animals, Zac and Joel's thoughts were different from the rest as they talked about controlling a certain thing and spilling the contents of a half-full glass of water, They didn't mention anything about maintaining the earth and living plants/animals, their thoughts of 'Conservation' is different from the other's understanding.

Definition:

"The Department of Conservation (DOC) (Māori: Te Papa Atawhai) is the public service department of New Zealand charged with the conservation of New Zealand's natural and historical heritage. An advisory body, the New Zealand Conservation Authority (NZCA) is provided to advise DOC and its ministers".

Netiquette

We were learning Netiquette, manners and rules when going online. This is what I learnt and took note of:

Digital etiquette or netiquette is a set of rules for how to behave online. It's a conduct for having good
manners in treating others with common courtesy and respect.
It's just as important in our digital lives including how we act online games. or how we communicate in emails and send messages in chat rooms and on message boards blogs and social networking sites.
Some people may loose control the second they jump online, Like when they disagree with someone or have strong feelings about a certain topic. They end up saying stuff they'd never say in person.
They may send rude emails and items to start arguments on message boards. It is called flaming, it can lead to full on flame wars insulting arguments between two or more users.
Some people look for opportunities online to start a flame war for fun.
They are called troublemakers trolls.
On the internet it's pretty easy to stay anonymous or identified. Having a secret identity to hide behind can make people pretty brave. But we forget that we are dealing with a real human being.
Always treat people how they want to be treated, You wouldn't want somebody to be rude to you so don't be rude to anyone else.
Netiquette isn't just about being nice, it's also about communicating clearly.
That also means keeping emails clear into the point. it also means making your messages easy to read and understand which can depend on your audience.
Do not write in capital letters because in the internet it means that you're yelling.
Also keep in mind that humor isn't always obvious in writing. Without seeing facial expression when hearing someone's voice, it can be hard to tell the difference in a friendly joke and real cruelty.
To make sure you are communicating clearly, reread the what you write before sending it. Check your tone grammar and spelling to make sure you really need to say what you've written.
And once your message is out, it's out.
Lastly make sure you ask permission before posting anything about your friends on a blog or social networking site. People's personal information is private and you can really ruin relationships if you posed something that a friend or friends parents don't want on the web.
The internet is not a private place.

LO: Describe relevant information about a chosen disease.

Japanese encephalitis: It is a rare disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus. it is spread to people by infected mosquito's. It was discovered 125 years ago, JE (Short for Japanese encephalitis) has spread wildly in the 20th century. mostly around Asia. This disease affects travelers and people aged 12 months  or older. This disease affects the blood stream, once bitten by a infected mosquito, the virus instantly goes into the blood stream. this causes people who have it have, Paralysis, tremors, headaches, illness, coma and a very stiff neck. Although, this disease is curable, all the infected people need to have is a Japanese encephalitis vaccine. Even though, having the vaccine is also not enough, people need to protect themselves from the mosquito's by either covering up loos fitting long sleeved shirt and long pants when going outside or by applying mosquito repellent to exposed skin.

Quality Blog Comments

1. Compliment the writer in a more detailed way. When writing a comment, always write in a specific way, why you liked it and what needs to be changed. Writing specific comments to the blogger, it helps them improve their blogs more.
2.Add new information. When posting a blog always add factual information, like for an example the Eiffel tower. how old is it or how tall is it. also always make sure you read the comment section to make sure no one had written what you want to say.
3. Make connections with the reader, connections remind people of things that you did whether what you did in the holidays or what you did overseas. The blogger might add a specific thing they did in the holidays like eating marshmallows then probably a reader might want to share some facts about the bloggers holiday.
4. Always end with a relevant question to get a conversation to keep it going. For an example you ask what kind of trees there are and what they're called, hopefully the blogger might respond to it. it's always good to get a little conversation going at the end.
5. Always edit and proofread your comments, At the beginning of your sentences use Capital letters and at the end use punctuation, always use one exclamation mark and if you might want to show some excitement use more words not exclamation marks. If you use the pronoun 'I' always capitalize it. That way your comment would be more outstanding and free from mistakes.

Vortex Cannon

https://youtu.be/inrzvYKYlY
Aim:
I want to find out if the vortex cannon smoke ring travel can knock down how-may-cups

Equipment:
Garbage Can
plastic bags
Duct tape
Craft Knife
Fog Machine
Plastic Knives

Method:
Step 1: Collect Equipment.

Step 2: Use the crafting knife to make a medium sized hole at the bottom of the garbage can.

Step 3: When the hole is cut, we then use the plastic bags to cover the open hole and wrap it with duct tape.

Step 4: We then build a pyramid out of plastic cups

Step 5: finally we fill the garbage can with  fog, before testing our Vortex Cannon.

Attempt
Size of hit
Number of cups
1
Medium
3
2
large
6
3
small
3

On our first Attempt, Breanna stood a bit close and made a medium hit on the cannon causing for only 3 cups to fall.

On the second, Breanna went further and used a large hit on the vortex cannon. the impact was so strong that 6 plastic cups fell.

For our last one, Breanna stood more further and used a small hit. since the force was too weak only 3 cups fell.

(1) Our Aim was achieved, since we finally found out how many cups we could knock down.

(2) Throughout our experiments, we worked well together so we all managed to test and to discover the answers to our aim. The method, we worked as a team and in the end we made a vortex cannon with everyone's participation.

3) Though the only problem was that. the smoke machine couldn't be used caused it wouldn't poof out any smoke. So in the end we used the air to test our findings, it was a success!

(4) next time, we probably could've used smoke instead of air. That would be a great experiment, seeing the smoke rings come out and hit the cups and all. But using the air was fine too, since we finally achieved our aim.

Statement:

Group 1 has less MnM's than Group 2

Group 2 is one number higher than group 1

the Pie graph and Column chart shows different information about Group 1 and 2

Reflection:
Today I learnt how to make graphs and summing using the easy method. I was surprised that Group 1 and 2 had different totals cause I thought that they were the same. when we assorted them into pie graphs and Column graphs we had different outcomes.
