Aim: To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.
Method:
- We worked in groups of 3-4 students.
- Potting mix was put into the cups.
- The cups were planted with radish seeds.
- Each cup had a different growing condition:
Cup 1 - Normal
Cup 2 - Red Cellophane
Cup 3 - Over watered
Cup 4 - blue cellophane
Cup 5 - Clear Cellophane
The plants grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured
Findings:
- blue light - 60.9mm
- overwatered - 10mm
- red light - 70mm
- normal - 10.5mm
- clear light - 60mm
Plant growing condition
|
Height after 10 days (mm)
|
Normal
| 10.5mm |
Blue cellophane
| 60.1mm |
Red cellophane
| 70mm |
Overwater
| 10mm |
The normal seedling was planted in normal potting mix and grew to a height of 10.5mm.
The blue cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix, covered in blue cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of 60.1mm. The red cellophane seedling was planted in normal potting mix............. to a height of 70mm. The overwatered seedling was planted in normal potting mix, the water could not drain out the bottom of the pot and it grew to a height of 10mm.
Conclusion:
From the pictures and evidence, we can conclude that:
The seedling height was:
1.Red Cellophane- 70mm
2.Blue Cellophane- 60.1mm
3.Normal- 10.5mm
4.Overwater- 10mm
The best growing conditions were:
1.Red Cellophane
2.Blue Cellophane
3.Normal
4.Overwater
therefore the seedling with red cellophane conditions grew to a height of 70mm.
