 Logo Design Challenge 

When drawing my logo multiple times I had cursive and elegant in mind so I drew all my logos in cursive. parallel and vertical lines work well with separating elements and adding simple designs to the logo. Circles and squares too. I wanted my logos to feel simple but elegant at the same time so I tried drawing them with not too many details, Yves Laurent also comes into mind and drew inspiration from intertwining the letters in a parallel manner. I drew all my shapes from the letters of my logo brand name and it turned out pretty well.

Contemporary: Barnbrook

- The focal point of this poster is the use of negative space with the use of bold black typography to attract attention. the circles are in bolder contrast to the typography.

-I think the leading lines are the circles. When I fist looked at it, the circles were what lead me. 

- the use of colors are monochromatic. yet the use of black on white is a very bold effect with a sense of minimalism and abstract lines. 

- The use of repetitive elements are the shapes amongst the typography and lines. it is a occurring theme in the poster as the circles and triangles are in bolded black.

I have taken screenshots of my current progress in the doc. I plan to design more, enough so that I can fill an entire panel of logo designs and development.

Reflection:

I think I am a bit behind so I rely on continuing work from school at home. I still need to properly develop my logos and start on some poster ideas. I have a good grasp of my logo concepts, colour schemes and theme around my cosmetic corporate but I still need to make more designs.

Week 7 Term 1

Moodboard Revision:

This is a re-creation of my mood board in google drawings. With my additional artist models Josef muller and David Carson, I liked the pastel aesthetic. I also liked the vintage posters with the same colour scheme of soft, pastel colours. in comparison to my previous mood board, it retained the same colour scheme but it really had no theme going on and just picked pictures that related to my colour scheme.

My logo designs are based on a treble cliff and ampersand. I took the & and decided to focus on that because I thought it represented both YL. A parallel line goes through the treble cliff and the ampersand has flicks and curves, by putting the two together I have produced possible outcomes for my logo design. some of my designs have abstract and vertical lines going through.

Mood Board.

the posters I chose based on each artist follow the same colour scheme I have chosen. Light colours of pinks. Most of the posters contain typography and abstract designs.

Week 6 Term 1

 -Rewrite your company name 20 times:

We were tasked with having to rewrite our logo company name in different fonts 20 times to explore and experiment with varying typography fonts. This logo name was given to me by Mrs Clemence so I stuck with it. I thought of differentiating the possible outcomes of the name Yuli to YL for short with Yves Laurent's style in mind. The fonts are primarily cursive because that was what came to mind when thinking of YuLi as a cosmetic brand.

Week 10 Term 1 Blogpost

 in my concept sketches, it turns out that I tend to focus on the symbol & in almost all of them. I like how elegant it looks in different fonts and ideas from the web. I will be focusing on pastel colours for my posters and logo designs as they capture the beauty and feminine aesthetics of a cosmetic brand. it relates to my artist model David Carson whose works are typography, using letters to create a visually appealing poster. As I am using the symbol & as my main subject. Josef-muller Brockman because he uses minimal colours and geometric shapes to make his posters appealing and minimal. 

Week 9 Term 1 Blogpost

 We were told to swap logo designs with a classmate to redraw it and change how we'd prefer it to be. I swapped logo's with Ivan and his brand was based on high-quality rich people only clothes brand. His logo was called 'Lumière' and explained that it meant shining/bright star. He initially drew it as LU both words interlacing each other in a Yves saint Laurent type of way as he wanted to indicate the LU in Lumière. So replacing the U with a star it represented what the meaning of Lumière means. it captures the expensive theme of his clothing brand making it more chic and grand

Aaron Draplin Notes 2.2

 

One of the most recurring theme in Draplin's video is his respect and adoration for the designers of the past. he collects books on logo designs from the past because he likes the design of the logos, and corporate identity from the 70s. 

another thing to take note is to sketch. draplin is a big fan of using pencil and paper. he states that he prefers to start sketching on paper because your hand is 'free-er' than it would be in illustrator. it lets you quickly write down ideas while you sketch things out, plus take notes. he says you can be messy that way since some people feel like they have to be super clean with their initial designs, it can restrict their creativity. 

according to draplin near the end he talks about having a dark base available just so that he can place the logo on said base and see how it does. everything looks perfect on a sterile, white background, but pait it with a color, and things could go haywire. logos could be seen everywhere, from T-shirts to billboards to Instagram avatars, some think about all of them and don't let the white space blind you.

create a symbol palette for everything. think about all of the logos you have designed, then imagine where those logos are going to go. create a stock template where you can drop in the logo. 

Color Palettes Blogpost 2

Analogous

Like complementary colours, analogous colours are also a set of colours that work well together. But rather than being opposite of each other, they sit side-by-side in sets of three. Analogous colours work so well together due to their representation of colour palettes that regularly occur in nature.

Monochromatic

A monochromatic colour scheme is a colour palette in which a single colour tint is used as the basis for all shades and hues found within the image. The shade of colour is varied by changes made to the saturation and/ or brightness of the base colour. White and black are always present as the two extremes on either end of the spectrum for whichever colour is chosen for the monochromatic colour scheme.

Triad

A triadic colour combination consists of three colours evenly spaced on the colour wheel. It consists of a special variant of the split-complementary color scheme, with an equal distance between all colours.

Complementary

Complementary colours are pairs of colours that contrast with each other more than any other colour, and when placed side-by-side make each other look brighter.

Shades

shade is a hue or mixture of pure colours to which only black is added. it contains no white or grey. shade darkens the colour, but the hue remains the same. 

Custom 

These are my custom colour palette which consists of soft, pastel colours. these are the colours my colour scheme is based around.

Redemption scene

 In the Mad Max Fury Road scene George Miller uses the aspect of close-up shot efficiently to convey the expressions worn by the characters.

As furiosa drives the war rig, the film technique used to capture her expressions was a close-up shot. She keeps her gaze forward, not to focus on the road as her eyes seem dazed and lost in thought as she says “I was taken as a child”  before moving her gaze out the window.  As she keeps her gaze out the window Mad Max questions her motive, Furiosa replies “Redemption” in a calm tone whilst maintaining the dazed look. It is clear that as she narrates her part of the story, Furiosa only thought about herself when attempting to escape but now it's different as she now isn't escaping herself but alongside the wives of immortan Joe when Max asks “what about them?” directing towards immortan Joe's wives and nux. She replies “hope” yet the technique establishing shot is used to capture the setting of the moment, as furiosa drives the war rig while reminiscing the camera angle captures just how barren and empty the world they live in now, driving through empty yards of nothingness. The dialogue shared between them and Furiosa’s moment of vulnerability explains just how close they have become during the times they’ve been together. From when Max was hostile and plagued with nightmares to sleeping vulnerably in the war rig as furiosa drives. Even when he jolts awake from a nightmare Furiosa gently coaxes him saying “it’s ok. Get some rest.” in a motherly soft tone. This shows that even though furiosa was demoted to a soldier, unlike the rest of immortan joe’s war boys who seem to only care about Valhalla and worshipping cars and immortan joe. Furiosa is the only living person with the semblance of humanity. This can also be connected to Nux, who at the beginning used max as a blood bag and partaking in taking down the war rig, obsessed with witnessing valhalla change after witnessing the humility immortan Joe's wives showed him. 

3.1

My theme revolves around cityscape/urban style. Referring to the works of traditional artist Joseph Muller-Brockmann. 

 

As you can see the first thing you notice about the design is circles. The circles start from the left side and radiate circles onto circles before being dissected into geometric shapes as the design focuses on precision. The geometric rhythms of the concentric arc relate directly to the mathematical systems and structures present in Beethoven's music. Every element has a reason for its size, placement, and position with the dramatic changes in the proportion of the concentric arcs echoing the drama of Beethoven’s music. The monotonous colours cancel the emotions out of the poster focusing on strict, rigid design with a sense of order as if it's mimicking music notes on white paper as Beethoven is a famous music piece. It's minimalistic yet it has a lot of hidden details within the use of symmetric shapes composed together to make a bigger picture.

This has inspired me to do cityscape because it also has a sense of modernist design. the intricate cut shapes and positioning has inspired me to do the same wth my theme.

For my Mood Board, I have chosen cityscapes/urban as my theme for this year. The artist models I have taken interest in are Josef Muller-Brockmann, David Carson and Stewart Geddes. The reason why I have chosen them is that their aesthetics and unique designs have piqued my interest. 

As my corporate/ logo idea, I have thought of doing a perfume industry type of design. the reason why is that I think perfumes nowadays are getting unique designs and innovative creations of scent. putting the artist models I have into consideration I think the modernized, unique styles suit the perfumes because of the different possibilities of designs.

Anne Frank Connections

1. How does viewing this text through a child’s perspective change the way we experience it?

In the perspective of Anne, we are showed that she doesn't yet understand the 'dangers' of the world

and the situation she and her family are trapped in. it makes us sympathize with Anne Frank as she

always looks forward to another day without considering the War taking place. as we experience the text

in a childlike, innocent matter the story proceeds and gradually

Anne's hope for another day crumbles as she finally understands the dangers her family has to face

and what they were shielding her from.

1. How would this text be different if it were told from the perspective of an adult?

instead of sugar-coating how the war was in the perspective of Anne who has a childlike sense of

thought. War hits differently for adults and is more stressed since they have responsibilities to carry

out and protect their family from danger. Every day, the adults need to plan and strategize a way out

of the grim fate they currently lead and understand the consequences if caught by the Nazi's. It's

the survival of the fittest.

1. Why did the filmmaker or author decide to tell this story from a child’s perspective?

to see what the world looks like from a child's perspective and discover how war affects people of different ages and how they would react. it seems like viewing from a child's perspective presents us with a new viewpoint of war and how it affects children at Anne's age.

1. How are children represented in the text? How are adults represented in the text?

Children are represented as Naive, curious and gullible as shown by Anne frank who despises her

mother because her own mother wouldn't listen to anything she has to say. Anne's mother shows us how

adults are ignorant, selfish, serious and are thieves. Anne's father had to steal in order to survive whilst

her mother is more ignorant and selfish.

1. Does imagination help the young hero to cope? How so? Provide an example.

Anne Frank vents off into her diary by writing the events occurring on that day imaging that she is writing it to a fictional person. it helps her cope with the heated arguments, mental deprivation and isolation as her family needed to keep out of the Nazi's sights. though she made many disagreements with the adults, she later managed to get along with them.

1. Does this text connect in any other ways to the other texts you have read/viewed?

this connects to Jojo Rabbit. though instead of the main character running away and hiding from Nazi's.

Jojo is a Nazi himself yet he isn't so sure if he wanted to join the wars and kill Jews like Adolf Hitler, a real Nazi.

Jojo takes inspiration from Adolf Hitler, his imaginary friend, and strives to become a great Nazi just like him. thought

upon crossing paths with a Jew hidden amongst the walls of his home, maybe Jews weren't as bad as they were as tolf

by Nazi's and books. Anne Frank is a Jew yet in spite of everything, she still believes that the world can still be a beautiful place.

Like Jojo, she has an imaginative friend whom she writes Diary entries to. seemingly as to communicate

with her inner thoughts and find calamity in spite of everything. unlike Jojo, Anne Frank meets a tragic end

2. How so? Provide evidence and explain.

Anne Frank and Jojo are two completely different individuals. Jojo is more cowardly and thus called 'Jojo Rabbit'

dubbed by the Nazi's who train upcoming Nazi warriors. Anne Frank is more hopeful and thinks everything

has a meaning. and despite all the terror happening around both main characters, hope is what fueled

them to survive.

“I've found that there is always some beauty left -- in nature, sunshine, freedom, in yourself; these can all help you.” As stated by Anne Frank

Yet for Jojo he needed support, and support is what his mother provided him "Let everything happen to you, Beauty and Terror, no feeling is final."

Both statements have similarities as the word beauty is used in both sentences.
